Botched Permanent Makeup Brows: Plasma Fibroblast Removal

My Experience with Plasma Fibroblast Removal on Botched Permanent Makeup Brows

"With over ten years of experience in plasma fibroblast treatments, I often encounter clients who are desperate to correct or remove botched permanent makeup, particularly on their brows. Recently, I conducted a study on the removal of permanent brow makeup that was uneven, with one brow having an incorrect shape and fading into an unnatural color. My goal was to see if plasma fibroblast removal could effectively address these issues. I regularly conduct studies like this to personally test and refine plasma fibroblast techniques, ensuring that the treatments I offer are truly effective."

 Here’s how the process unfolded:

  •  1. Step One: Shaving Off the Brow Hair: I started by shaving off all the brow hair to create a clear working area. Although a bit daunting, this I thought is necessary to fully access the tattooed skin and ensure the treatment is as effective as possible. (and hoped to the stars it will grow back)
  •  2. Step Two: Numbing the Brows: I numbed the entire brow area to reduce any discomfort. After allowing enough time for the numbing cream to take full effect.
  •  3. Step Three: Applying the Light Spray method: Using the plasma fibroblast pen, I applied a light spray over the entire brow area which created tiny micro-traumas to the skin, helping to break down the pigment. To intensify the effect, I repeated the process with a second light spray over each brow.
  •  4. Step Four: Osmosis with Salt Solution: After the plasma treatment, I applied a salt solution mixed with saline, which is part of a process known as osmosis. The purpose of this solution is to draw out the fragmented ink particles from the skin. Once the solution was applied, I covered the brows with cling wrap for ten minutes to allow the process to work more effectively. (this part was incredibly painful—the plasma fibroblast treatment itself was tolerable, but the application of the salt solution really took the discomfort to another level if you don't apply an cooling gel pack.)
  • 5. Cooling Gel Packs: Using cooling gel packs or ice packs immediately after applying the salt solution can help soothe the area and reduce pain.
  • 6. Step Five: Aftercare protocol followed
    • Pain Relief Medication: Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help manage pain and reduce inflammation.
    • Cold Compresses: Applying cold compresses to the treated area for 10-15 minutes at a time, several times a day, can help reduce swelling and discomfort.
    • Hydrocortisone Cream: A mild hydrocortisone cream can help reduce inflammation and itching.
    • Aloe Vera Gel: Aloe vera has soothing properties and can help calm the skin and reduce discomfort.
    • Keep the Area Clean: Gently clean the treated area with a mild, fragrance-free cleanser.
    • Avoid Touching: Do not touch, pick, or scratch the treated area to prevent infection and scarring.
    • Apply Healing Ointment: Use a recommended healing ointment to keep the area moisturized and to aid in the healing process.
    • Avoid Sun Exposure: Keep the treated area out of direct sunlight. Use a high-SPF sunscreen if you need to go outside.
    • Avoid Makeup: Do not apply makeup to the treated area until it is fully healed.
    • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to help your skin heal from the inside out.

Healing Period: At four weeks post-treatment, here are the results:

  • The natural brow hair fully grew back, which was a huge relief.
  • The color of the botched permanent makeup had noticeably lightened. It wasn’t completely gone, but there was a significant improvement. and the sharp edges of the permanent makeup at the top were gone.
  • It still has a pinkish color at the top of the brows, but this is still early stages, let's see at 12 weeks.

So, does plasma fibroblast removal work for botched permanent makeup brows?

In this case, definitely yes—it helped lighten the pigment considerably. I believe with one or two more follow-up sessions, the pigment could be further faded. However, it was very uncomfortable during the first 3 days of healing. While the treatment itself was manageable, the salt application was also quite intense.

For removing tattoos

Especially for permanent makeup for brows, picosecond lasers are generally considered more effective than plasma fibroblast treatments. However, if you have a higher pain tolerance or are in a situation where you need to remove or lighten botched brows and cannot access laser treatments, plasma fibroblast could be a viable option. The osmosis process using a salt solution effectively draws out the fragmented ink particles, which eventually scab over and fall off as the skin heals. Each session progressively lightens the tattoo.

If you’re considering this treatment, please be aware that it can be somewhat uncomfortable. It’s important to be prepared and committed to seeing it through. Ensure you use a reputable technician and consider all factors, such as the Fitzpatrick scale, colors used in the tattoos, and

Risk factors:

  • Infection: Improper sterilization techniques can lead to infections, which can cause severe complications and prolonged healing times.
  • Scarring: An inexperienced technician may apply the treatment incorrectly, leading to excessive skin damage and permanent scarring.
  • Hyperpigmentation or Hypopigmentation: Incorrect application can result in uneven skin tone, either darkening (hyperpigmentation) or lightening (hypopigmentation) of the treated area.
  • Burns and Blisters: Misuse of the plasma fibroblast pen can cause burns and blisters, which can be painful and may lead to scarring.
  • Inconsistent Results: An unskilled technician may not achieve uniform results, leading to patchy or uneven removal of the tattoo.
  • Prolonged Healing Time: Incorrect technique and aftercare advice can extend the healing period and increase the risk of complications.
Choosing a reputable technician who is well-trained and experienced in plasma fibroblast treatments is crucial to minimize these risks and ensure the best possible outcome. Always do thorough research and check reviews before proceeding with any treatment.

For removing tattoos, especially permanent makeup for brows, picosecond lasers are  considered more effective than plasma fibroblast treatments. Here are the reasons why:
  • Precision and Speed: Picosecond lasers deliver ultra-short pulses of energy (one trillionth of a second) that shatter the ink particles into much smaller fragments compared to nanosecond lasers. This allows the body to clear the ink more efficiently.
  • Reduced Side Effects: The shorter pulse duration of picosecond lasers minimizes heat damage to the surrounding skin, reducing the risk of scarring and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. This is particularly important for delicate areas like the brows.
  • Effectiveness on Different Colors: Picosecond lasers are more effective at removing a wider range of tattoo colors, including stubborn pigments like blue and green, which are often resistant to other laser treatments.
  • Fewer Sessions Required: Due to their efficiency, picosecond lasers typically require fewer treatment sessions to achieve desired results, making the process quicker and more convenient.
  • Safety for All Skin Types: Picosecond lasers, such as the Q-switched Nd:YAG laser, are safe for use on darker skin tones, reducing the risk of permanent pigment changes.
  • Overall, picosecond lasers offer a more advanced and effective solution for tattoo removal, especially for sensitive areas like the brows.
